The cause of itchy scalp in most cases are microbes (yeast), psychological problems such as anxiety and stress, an unsuitable shampoo or washing hair too often.
We daily lose millions of skin cells on the scalp, but if your clothes are covered with white flakes you probably have too much yeast or fungi on your scalp that causes excessive flaking of dead skin cells which we call dandruff.
The doctors really do not know what causes that skin cells grow too quickly and die. If you are among those who have severe dandruff, then you probably have very active sebaceous glands or the fungus Pityrosporum ovale, which is present in all people, got out of control.
It is very common that dandruff is a response or a symptom of food allergies. If the cause is an allergy you should gradually exclude all fatty foods from your daily menu such as nuts, chocolate, dairy products, excessive quantities of sugar and seafood.
Other factors that cause dandruff are family history, excessive sweating, use of alkaline soaps, yeast infections and stress. Dandruff can be triggered seasonally – during dry and cold winters.
Dandruff is also caused by seborrheic dermatitis and scalp psoriasis. Some say those two can be counted as dandruff types and have to be treated more thoroughly. Like all forms of ordinary dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis and psoriasis are not hazardous to health.
If dandruff is a result of too much stress or anxiety you should try to start meditating, doing yoga, having a relaxation massage every once in a while … Every kind of exercise for mind and spirit will definitely help.
